The Turtle and the Dove

Story Description

A beautiful white dove, blown out to sea in the storm, finds safety on a turtle’s back. They become friends, when a big storm parts them. The story will grab the children’s attention when they read about how even though there were no pleasant goodbyes, the two friends did not stop looking for each other and how the story ends with the happy reunion of the Turtle and the Dove.

Don Freeman was born in San Diego, California, in 1908. He was introduced to the world of Children’s Literature when William Saroyan asked him to illustrate several books. Soon after, he began to write and illustrate his own books, a career he settled into comfortably and happily. Don died in 1978, after a long and successful career. He created many beloved characters in his lifetime, perhaps the most beloved among them a stuffed, overall-wearing bear, named Corduroy.
